John Taylor Academy is a fictional boarding school created by myself and Donna Archer for the purpose of writing stories set within it. It has grown into an enormous project covering architectural design, building and fire regulations, costume design and research into relevant Acts of Parliament. We are very grateful to the following real-life boarding schools for their assistance: Culford School, Framlingham College and Brandeston Hall Junior School, Gresham's School and Gresham's Preparatory School, Gosfield School and Royal Hospital School. Without them there would have been a decided lack of authenticity in the project. They not only answered our questions but gave us so much more information than we had ever dreamt about.
Why make a web site?The obvious answer is, why not? but in case that is not sufficient, here are the other reasons. John Taylor Academy, JTA for short, is more than just a project to us - it is a real entitiy, occupied by people who have very decided personalities. Every one of the seven hundred people that make up the staff, pupils and ancillary staff of JTA have, at some point, made themselves known to us. For us it is a living, evolving school and therefore deserves a web site just like any other school. More importantly, the web site is a reference point for those that we speak to about the project. It is a lot easier to say to some-one who is interested, "Here's our web site address," than it is to say, "Here, look through these five boxes of paper." We hope that people stumbling across the site in search of something else will let us know what they think of the concept and, if there should ever be enough interest, that we might be instrumental in making such a school happen. (For reasons as to what makes JTA special, see the following page.) It also gives us a chance to do what has been done above: publicly thank those who have helped us. Lastly, it gives me a reason to improve my computer skills <grin>.
